In July 2019 I was fortunate to have the opportunity to attend a forum where Cokie spoke about her personal life in Maryland and as a journalist and author. She was articulate & funny. Telling the background stories of the experiences she had with various elected officials. At the time I had no idea that this would be my last opportunity the enjoy her expertise & jocularity.

My favorite story she told was when she, her husband and family were on their vacation on the Maryland eastern shore she received a call requesting she leave early and fly to Africa to interview Laura Bush. Although disappointed she wasn't able to finish her vacation, she took the job. When she met with Laura, Mrs. Bush insisted that Michelle Obama be included in the interview as she too was in Africa @ the same time. So Cokie interviewed both first ladies in Tanzania.
